Water managers face an increasingly complex mix of operational, environmental, and safety challenges. As weather patterns shift and events become harder to predict, the need for real-time awareness and proactive action has never been more critical.

That’s why we’re excited to introduce a set of powerful enhancements to HydroForecast’s notifications—built to help you respond earlier, coordinate better, and protect people and infrastructure with greater confidence.

Whether you're optimizing day-to-day operations or preparing for high-flow events, our upgraded alert options gives you the foresight to act, not just react.

Custom alerts for proactive water management

HydroForecast now offers three types of customizable forecast alerts to help users stay ahead of changing conditions. Our early warning system delivers actionable notifications straight to your email, enabling faster responses to critical flow changes, extreme weather events, and deviations from historical norms.

New: Long-term average comparison alerts

Get alerted when forecasted flow diverges significantly from the historical long-term average at a site. For example: “Notify me if forecasted flow exceeds 150% or drops below 50% of the long-term average for this site.” Whether you're monitoring for unusually high flows or early signs of drought, long-term average alerts help you quickly spot meaningful anomalies before they become challenges.

New: Upcoming event alerts

Be the first to know when a sharp rise in short-term streamflow is forecasted over the coming days. These alerts are designed to give early warning ahead of sudden events like snowmelt, heavy storms, or rapid runoff.

Alerts trigger when forecasted flow is expected to double within a four-day window, and only if that projected flow is at least 50% of the site’s long-term average—ensuring notifications are meaningful and relevant. Example: “Alert me if streamflow is expected to double within the next four days.”

Threshold alerts

Set a specific numeric threshold for any forecast variable and receive an alert when the forecast crosses that value. For example: "Alert me if streamflow exceeds 100 cfs," or "Notify me if temperature drops below 32°F." These alerts are flexible, allowing you to choose any variable and threshold that matters most to your operations.

Timely notifications help you turn forecast data into action

Each alert type is designed to give you early, actionable insight based on your specific operational needs—whether it's monitoring absolute thresholds, detecting rapid changes, or spotting significant deviations from historical norms. And you can now enroll multiple sites at once when setting up new forecast alerts—making it easier than ever to get started.

With HydroForecast notifications, you can:

  • Respond with confidence to emerging risks
  • Protect operations, infrastructure, and communities
  • Save time by letting the system watch forecasts on your behalf
