Connecting wildlife habitat in Texas

San Antonio, Texas, US

A view from above makes it obvious that wildlife can have a tough time crossing all the highways and sprawling development that slice through habitats for all sorts of critters. In Texas, the largest wildlife crossing structure in the U.S. was built in 2020 to make it easier for animals to cross a dangerous and busy highway. Seeing the site before and after construction helps to tell the story of the importance of connected habitats. It's a big win for the area's many species—all of them have been spotted using the crossing already!
