Event Description

Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana on August 29, 2021, the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. It was a Category 4 storm and caused estimated damages over $50 billion and multiple fatalities. By the time Ida reached Tennessee, it had devolved into a tropical depression yet continued to unload significant precipitation, with nearly 10 mm/hr falling at Little Tennessee at Needmore during the event’s peak.

HydroForecast’s predictions correctly identified when the storm would reach the basin, how much inflow it would produce, and when it would recede.
